The Heat Wave series explores uncomfortable hybridized spaces. The paintings are about heat in terms of weather, street violence, psychological trauma, and social anger. I am marrying aspects of the formal language of painting (stripes, drips, simultaneous contrast) with tropes from urban environments (emergency/warning signage colors of day-glo orange and yellow; spray painted marks that reference graffiti and construction markers).
